The role
Responsibilities
- Design, implement and operate scalable, low‑latency backend services using Java and/or Scala
- Build and maintain distributed systems and APIs for online and offline ML predictions
- Profile and optimise CPU and memory usage, run benchmarks and capacity experiments
- Run production services on Kubernetes (on‑prem and managed cloud environments)
- Own cron‑based and scheduled workloads such as batch processing and maintenance jobs
- Implement and maintain observability using metrics, logs, dashboards and alerts
- Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response, including root‑cause analysis
- Collaborate with ML practitioners and product teams to translate requirements into platform capabilities
Requirements
- Strong experience as a backend or software engineer building production services
- Solid programming skills in Java, Scala or another JVM‑based language
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems
- Hands‑on experience running services on Kubernetes
- Good understanding of performance tuning, profiling and capacity planning
- Experience working in Linux and cloud‑based environments
- Comfortable collaborating with engineers, ML practitioners and product stakeholders
Practical
- Only open to freelance (ZZP or BV) no sponsorship or permanent
- Amsterdam based (Hybrod working)
- 40 hours per week
- 12 month contract
