Freelance Staff Engineer

We're looking for a Staff Engineer to shape the future of a global, enterprise-grade digital banking platform used by leading financial institutions worldwide.

In this role, you'll set technical direction, mentor senior engineers, and drive the design of scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems. You'll work with modern architectures (microservices, APIs, cloud-native) and collaborate closely with product and architecture teams to deliver impactful solutions at scale.

What you'll do:

• Lead the design and evolution of complex backend systems and AI
• Define best practices for scalability, performance, and security
• Mentor engineers and elevate engineering standards across teams
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
• Contribute hands-on to critical components when needed

What you bring:

• Extensive experience in backend engineering (Java/Kotlin or similar)
• Extensive experience in AI systems
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and cloud platforms
• Proven ability to influence architecture and technical strategy
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Experience in fintech or highly regulated environments is a plus
